Complainers, know-it-alls, procrastinators -- we've all worked with these and other difficult
types of people. How can you maintain your sanity? Here are four techniques for
dealing with problem people.
Don't play their game. Remember that difficult people are trying to control you with
their difficult behavior. Stick to the issues instead of reinforcing the behavior.
Get some distance. Physically or mentally back away from the situation. This helps you
see what people are really trying to do and gives you the opportunity to frame a suitable
response.
Don't wish the problem away. Admit - to yourself - that you have trouble with some people.
Only then can you begin to think of effective ways to work with them.
Be confident. Believe in yourself and let other people see your self-confidence.
You'll be a less inviting target for childish behavior.
