Kerobee by Russel "Chistie" Garcia gathered
from LABEN November '98 newsletter.

The sting of tribal division
Has led to lingual derision
Mopan man free to rap in Ketchi
China man free to deal in Chinee
But, why call I man
.......Kerobee?
Long tortuous struggles in the Americas
Has led to the stifling of the Garifuna
We fish, we farm, we defend our land
Here in America outcasts on reserves we stand
We merged together African and Carib
.......Kerobee?
Scrupulous historians say we are cannibals
Just to belittle our warrior generals
Alejo, Chatuweh; all wanted us free
But here we are tricked by foreign fadiri
No wonder the white men tell my brother
To call I.....
Kerobee
Examine conscience and self Black Man
My brother, you are, forever in this land
No need to fuss, no need to fight
Harness our energies in Jah Jah Sight
And cease from deriding
Your own.......Garifuna
Not Kerobee
